The American Boccaccio Association

The American Boccaccio Association is a gathering of teachers, scholars, and students interested in the writings of Giovanni Boccaccio. Its aims are to keep the members informed of ongoing work in Boccaccio studies and to facilitate contacts among Boccaccio scholars. To this end we publish a newsletter including information about recent talks and publications. You are encouraged to submit any news about your own research (finished or in progress) or any events that may be of interest to other Boccaccisti.

The ABA is also the sponsor of an ongoing series of volumes entitled Lectura Boccacci. Modeled on the Lectura Dantis, these volumes offer close readings of each tale in the Decameron. The volume for Day I has already appeared in print: The Decameron. First Day in Perspective, edited by Elissa B. Weaver, University of Toronto Press, 2004. The volume for Day II is in production. Days III and IV are being edited. This is obviously a long-term project.

Membership in the American Boccaccio Association, still only $5, entitles you to the semi-annual newsletter about work going on in Boccaccio studies and the directory of members. As of 2005 this newsletter is being published online, but you may also request a paper copy to be mailed to you. If you are interested in joining, send your check and your name, institutional affiliation (if you have one), postal address, and email address to Eugenio Giusti, Box 314, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie NY 12601.

The ABA also welcomes your news pertaining to Boccaccio studies recent or upcoming conference papers, publications, events, etc. News may be sent to Eugenio Giusti or to Janet Smarr or via the membership and news submission form to the left.
